Periodic Inspection Report for an Electrical
Installation ( form 6 )
It is very important to have any Electrical Installation
Tested to ensure that it is safe.
The Periodic Inspection Report is a Test and Inspection on
the condition of an existing Installation. The Report, normally
comprises of at least four pages, and is only valid if a schedule
of Inspections and a schedule of Test Results are appended.
Where the Periodic Inspection and Testing has resulted in
a satisfactory overall assessment, the time interval for the
next Periodic Inspection and Testing will be given.
If the Testing and Inspection revealed that parts of the
installation required urgent attention, then remedial work
would be required to be done as soon as possible depending
on the degree of urgency and extent of the necessary remedial
work.
For items classified as ‘requires urgent attention’
the safety of those using the installation may be at risk.
Any recommendations would be categorised using the numbered
coding 1 to 4 as appropriate, where
1
= Requires Urgent Attention 2 = Requires Improvement
3 = Requires Further Investigation
4 = Does not comply with BS7671 : 2001
(
This does not imply that the Electrical Installaion is
unsafe.) |

The 'summary of the inspection’ box would clearly identify
the condition of the installation in terms of safety.
Appleby’s would give an estimate of how much it would
cost to do the remedial work, however there would not be a
problem if a customer wanted to use an existing “Contractor”
provided a retest was done after the remedial work was completed.
The Periodic Inspection Report for an Electrical Installation
would cover the following headings:-
- Details of the Client
- Purpose for which this report is required
- Details of the Installation.
- Extent and Limitations of the Inspection
- Next Inspection.
- Declaration – Inspected and Tested by
- Supply Characteristics and Earthing Arrangements
- Particulars of Installation Referred to in the
Report
- Observations and Recommendations
- Summary of the Inspection
- Schedules Attached
