Portable Appliance Testing
It is very important to have any electrical appliance in
your workplace, rented accommodation or especially any place
where members of the public visit, tested to ensure that it
is safe to use.
For Portable Appliance Testing considerable legislation should
be taken into account:-
- Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
- The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
- The Management of Health & Safety at Work
Regulations 1999
- The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations1998
When each electrical appliance has been tested, if safe
it will display a notice showing when it was tested, that
it has been passed as safe to use, when the next test should
take place and signed by whoever tested the appliance.
A visual check would be carried out first as this could reveal
faults that testing may NOT show. Then a number of the following
tests would be carried out(depending on the appliance).
